Language is spontaneous.
With few exceptions, we don’t draft and redraft what we want to speak, delivering our sentences just how we have planned. Language is off the cuff. We react to the world around us. We hear the words of someone else and respond to them in the moment.
Living in another country, with another, unknown language, has limited these opportunities. Oh how I have taken the ability to speak and to be understood for granted. My Spanish & Catalan are slowly improving, but not nearly quick enough.
But poco a poco, or maybe that should be poc a poc? You decide!
