The Prestige

A couple of weeks ago I watched the film, The Prestige, in which two rival magicians compete to outshine the other. It’s a good film, and I’d highly recommend a watch. It left me thinking. There’s an underlying narrative of sacrifice in the film and it made me question what I would make sacrifices for.

One character sacrifices his sanity for his obsession, the other lives a life of secrecy and sacrifices his love, relationships and ultimately his life to keep it that way.

We’re told that we can’t have it all, that in life we must make sacrifices, that life is full of compromises. But it’s down to us, what we sacrifice and what we stand to lose and gain in return.
