The Talented Mr Ripley

Today I thought I’d share with you a few lines from The Talented Mr Ripley, a film I watched recently. These words in particular resonated with me, and they are certainly something that I can identify with. Maybe you can too?

This film also speaks about the complexities of leading a double-life. Perhaps life might just be a little simpler and easier to understand if we are open and honest with each other.

Whatever you do, however terrible, however hurtful, it all makes sense doesn’t it? In your head. You never meet anybody that thinks they’re a bad person…

Don’t you just take the past and put it in a room, in the basement, and lock the door and never go in there? That’s what I do. And then you meet someone special and all you want to do is toss them the key and say open up, step inside. But you can’t. Because it’s dark and there are demons and if anybody saw how ugly it is…

  1. I agree that people rarely feel that they are ‘bad’ people. They look at themselves as enlightened, evolved, or as a misfit (without the negative connotation).

    Great post 🙂

You wish that person could see all your nakedness and flaws……and yet you are afraid they won’t be able to handle it…………sigh*
