A positive to overthinking

I am an overthinker. Perhaps you are too? I guess being an overthinker has contributed enormously to my struggles with anxiety, but as with everything else there is a positive aspect to it, sometimes we just need to look harder.

We are able to use characteristics, which has diminished our quality of life dramatically, to bring about positive change. Once I get an idea in my head, whatever it is about, I can’t stop thinking about it for hours, sometimes even days. I go over it again and again and again. It becomes an obsession, but one that I don’t act on straight away (thanks to my anxiety, I’m too scared too!).

When we become consumed by a thought, we tend to obsess on one, single point, but if instead we think through a scenario, from start to finish, perhaps we can start to make some progress.

If we can alter our mindset, just slightly, then we’re on to a winner. If we can shift our focus onto thinking of ways to improve it, perhaps by looking at it from a different perspective, or by planning for what can go wrong, then we can be ready for people’s reactions when we share our idea with the world.

Thank you! It’s just a little something I like to tell myself every now and again. It’s proof that there is always a silver lining! 🙂

  3. There is so much truth here. Sometimes overthinking can feel like a burden that’s thrusted on me – like I can’t control it. But it is nice to think of it like an opportunity to improve on an idea..

Great Post. I enjoy your writing style. Following you now. 😛
